Here are the procedures applied by the former President & current Adviser of the Medellin Farmers Scientist Association (MEFSA), Mr. Prescillano Aballe on how to succesfully manage corn farming during drought season. The MEFSA underwent the Farmers Scientist Training Program conducted by the UP Los Banos College of Agriculture, Manila Philippipines under the leadership of Professor Emeritus Romulo Davide in coordination with the Department of Agriculture, Region 7 and the support of Mayor Ricky Ramirez, Mayor of Medellin, Cebu.

Step 1: Use IPB Var6 which is an Open Pollinated Variety (OPV), a corn that was produced by the Integrated Plant Breeding (IBP) and also known as Obatampa- a Quality Protein Mais (QPM).

Step 2: Use 1 seed per heel measuring 25cm x 75 cm per row.

Step 3: Basal method using Vermicast plus complete fertilizer. After 21 days from seed emergence, drill 46% nitrogen fertilizer as side dressing.

Step 4: Proper irrigation procedure must be applied regularly.
