I don't know, but I'll tell you how to do it now. Read below :)

Step #1: Spray your dolls hair with water and brush it (You don't have to spray her hair, but I think it looks better when I do that. American Girl said just brushing her hair with no water might frizz it.)

Step #2: Get two small pieces of hair from the front of her hair (Get one piece of one side and another piece on the other front side of her hair.)

Step #3: Pull the two pieces back and tie it with a hair tie.
