Hamam (Il Bagno Turco, also known as Steam: The Turkish Bath) is a 1997 Italian/Turkish movie directed by Ferzan Ozpetek about the powerful transformations certain places can cause in people.
This is a moving, beautiful film that blends with the sensual nature of the Turkish culture. If you're watching it for hot-scenes or for quick entertainment, you'll be thoroughly disappointed. And don't think of it as a "gay movie" - the love between Francesco and Mehmet is only a small part of the bigger picture.
The movie progresses so slowly, almost standing still, just like the culture in which it is embedded in. The sensual Turkish culture, the warm and kind-hearted people, and falling in love with a beautiful Turkish boy, finally brings in Francesco an awakening to life - as his deceased aunt mentions in a letter - "that pure look to recognize desires".

@WILDVORTEX You've never been to UK you'd know better I'm French but live in UK at moment. there a bunch of loud drunken mostly atheist heathens who drink till they pass out on the streets or wake up in a bus stop :). to the americans that seem to know more about the uk than me I'm french and have lived in uk for 4/5 yrs now. and trust me about half of them are pig ignorant cold sexually repressed but the other half are cultured funny warm sexually free and show emotion so caricaturisation is weak you didnt get prudishness from the brits per say you got it from the puritans that were expelled from the uk as well as all the catholics that helped steal america from its native people.

just want to make it clear... i am turkish and living in turkey and i have never been in hamam it's not a place for us to take bath its an old culture... and @wka656 shariya law?! come on try to hide your ignorance to yourself... we don't have a difference (beyond culture) between any europe country or usa except there is people who still thinks we're terrorist or some kind of religious, barbarian people who lives in 18. century...
