This week was the Peoples Postcode Lotterys third trip to a DG postcode, but Angus found beautiful Stranraer just as scenic as hed remembered, saying: What a stunning area to visit, and an even better place to give away £30,000 - our two Street Prize winners shared £25,000 and were gobsmacked, while we had 166 winners share the £5,000 Sector Prize.

28-year-old Tanya Ellis was one of the lucky Street Prize winners, and had signed up after fellow Stranraer residents had won last year. I thought that with such great prizes and the opportunity to support Scottish charities, how could I resist! she explained. Though to be honest when I won I was so shocked I couldnt believe it had actually happened!

The Dumfries and Galloway Fire Rescue worker had just popped home for some lunch when she opened the door to a film crew and a smiling Angus. And even then incredulous Tanya presumed shed just won the flowers and champagne Angus was carrying. It still hasnt sunk in, she admitted. My workmates wouldnt believe me, as they know Im a bit of a prankster.

Tanyas £12,500 win couldnt have come at a better time, as this Monday she and partner of ten years Mark are setting off on their summer holidays to Benidorm. The second Street Prize winner wishes to remain anonymous, but with an extra £12,500 in the bank itll be a summer to remember for the camera-shy stranger!

Local Stranraer charities are winners too, as the Peoples Postcode Trust supports the Scottish Wildlife Trust, who have look after nearby Dowalton Marsh reserve. With 40p from every ticket sold going straight to Scottish charities, its not just players who are smiling- to date over £2.7 million has been raised for Scottish charities including Scottish Wildlife Trust, Maggies Cancer Caring Centres, CHILDREN 1ST, Missing People (Scotland), and Peoples Postcode Trust all receive unrestricted funding.

  • Fantastic! I'm from Stranraer, but now live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I'm off home for a holiday this year.
