*INSTRUCTIONS BELOW*
project to make a mesh-head edrum from a sweet tin and a sewing hoop. The idea is to make edrums available to anyone anywhere made from items readily available and at little cost.

INTRUCTIONS.
Hi,
yeah, it was one of those projects I didn't get to post up!Still i'll break it down as best I can.

You need:
A 'roses' or similar round chocolate tin
12 'L' brackets 1"
length of threaded bar 8M
24 nuts and washers 8M
10" sewing hoop -wood
piece of mesh - anti -thrip netting is good
'no nails' type adhesive
mouse mat rubber
soft foam
Double-sided tape
open hoop and coat each inner face with adhesive
place mesh over inner hoop
place outer hoop over both
tighten hoop while pulling the mesh taught
leave overnight

remove tin lid and turn bottom up
you should have a slight recess
near the rim edge apply 30mm square of DS tape
cut a 30mm sq of soft foam and push it on to the tape
apply another layer of tape on top
fix a piezo onto that
another layer of tape on the piezo
cut a 30mm sq from the mouse mat and stick that on top of the piezo
drill small hole near this 'sandwich' and pass the wires through it
drill 6 holes approx 25mm from the open end of the tin spacing them 60deg from centre
fix six brackets to this
the remaining brackets need to be shaped - you will need a pic! see 0.26 -so they form a 'U' shape that allows you to sit it over the top of the hoop - go around its edge and come underneath with a gap big enough to house a nut
take hoop and make sure the mesh is under the hoop and not over the top
Fix the brackets at 60deg intervals with small screws through the outer edge of the hoop
cut bars to approx 6 x90mm lenghts
push nut into gap under edge and thread the bar through bracket into nut until flush with nut end
put a washer and nut on bar and tighten first nut and bracket
thread another nut then washer up rod about half way
repeat for other brackets
then lower the hole assembly over the drum pushing the bars though the brackets on the tin
seat firmly and put final washer and nut on the rods
tighten down evenly until drum has reached a good tension -check piezo is still in place and foam is squashed evenly
finish by tightening down the centre nuts to the bottom brackets.
drill 10mm hole in tin side and fit a suitable socket
wire your piezo to this putting the red wire to the tip or live of the socket
Done!

You can dampen the inside and refit the lid.

  • I must say thank you 4 this i now have a bass from a tin can :)

  • @timster47386 Haha nice! any video?

  • This is pretty awesome. A question though. Since the bottom of the tin can is close to the mesh head, doesn't it produce a tin can sound when hit?

  • @Midevilshadow Not with that kind of tin. The pressing is about 12-15mm deep and it's quite easy to get a good tension on the mesh.Cheers

  • XD man were do u keep getting this music

  • Haha I agree but it makes the drumming look better.
