Joan did not release the song on an album until after the folk music craze had waned (1965) and even then her version was in German.

PP&M placed it on their first mega-selling lp which was still in the top five on Billboard's best-selling album chart three years after its release.

PPM did not do the original. Pete Seeger wrote it in the 50s and there were a few other versions before theirs. There's probably is best known, but the Baez and Kingston Trio versions got a lot of attention too.
