The Rescue of Somangyee (Hope) and Her Miraculous Recovery

On August 18, 2011, the KARA office received a report about a dog abuse case at a construction site in central Seoul. Reportedly, two men had been chasing and stoning a dog for 40 minutes because they didn't like her barking.

The dog, later called Somang, was found near death at the site. The two men were caught. But their response was that they cared nothing for the dog. They were just upset at being caught.

Rushed to the vets, Somang survived and her injuries were treated. She had suffered head trauma, ocular proptosis (eye out of the socket), and fractured bones. Fortunately, no internal organs were damaged but because of a fractured skull there were fears of neurological problems.

It was touch and go. It looked like she wasn't going to survive. But she was a fighter ...

I love and respect you people more than words can say; that you could bring happiness to this tortured attempted murdered, severely maimed dog, you are miracle workers. All good people around the world love you and Hope. I rarely cry anymore (shellshocked) but while watching this, the tears welled up. Amazing, Hope those evil "men" are rendered paralyzed (or worse) to never torture again.

Another guy chased her in to the coner and watched so that she coudln't escape while the guy was stoning her. "Lots of Koreans tend to think they can use dogs as their anger sandbags. they don't do it to pigs or cows only to dogs. I often get heard Dogs are just Dogs. Dogs should be treated as dogs. NO! What's wrong w us."

Update on this from a Korean volunteer at ARK (Animal Rescue Korea): The vet said she wouldn't be able to stand on her own to eat or pee. The guy who threw stones at her for 40 mins didn't have any guilt but even yelled at the reporter saying "You would've done the same thing cuz she was walking around my work site" He even said," Ok fine me, I don't care! I don't give a shi*t about the annoying dog and have no regret"! Two men involved got fined only 1 milion won and 500,000won each.
