Jean Langlais' "Plainte" from his Suite Brève. Listen @ 3:00 for those lush Skinner strings in full bloom, accompanying Skinner's trademark Flauto Mirabilis in the Solo division (4th manual). This gargantuan instrument in the world's 6th-largest cathedral is 189 ranks/10,650 pipes. Recorded in 1996, with the cathedral's then-assistant organist Nicholas White, on analog equipment & transferred to various media formats over the years: hence the distortion, etc.

  • Sounds like there is a lot of air leaking out of that organ!

  • I think that may be tape hiss from the analog recording (we used to have to worry about things like that).
