It is easy to get frustrated in language learning, but we should try to avoid negative feelings. We will gradually, although slowly, improve if we continue to put in the time. It is normal to forget, over and over. It is normal to stumble, to not understand, to make mistakes. The brain learns all the time if given enough exposure, but it learns slowly. Be patient.

  • I agree totally with you but is there any mechanism to speed up a slow brain ?

and why some people live in a country for years but they don't speak correctly its language even if they daily use it ? what is the average of time to learn a language than? what is the best way to get rid of bad habits like transating from your mother tongue to the new language as I am doing now ?

  • @zlabia2001 Just follow my seven hints, these are my thoughts on the subject.

  • This series is gold. This advice saves countless hours of frustration and lament. Thank you.

  • You now, Steve, what I particularly like about your videos and your position on language learning is a piece of hidden oriental wisdom. Like "don't pull your crops before it's grown ripe"... same thing for language learning.

    Cheers.

  • You are the best language learner I ever had!!!

  • 6 month ?? I need 2 Jears!

  • good advice Steve

  • @zzukizzz I prefer to focus on one new language at a time, and refresh the others occasionally. I don't mix them up much. The more you learn the better you get at learning languages. Good luck.

    Steve

  • This happens to me alot. I'm at an international university in my home country, so I am surrounded by language, mainly japanese, yet I stress when I forget words, and end up speaking english, since everyone knows it!! I shall start working on my confidence too, since I'm always too nervous to talk to my friends!

  • Patience is for hospitals!! Kidding aside. I agree, I've been frustrated at it sometimes and I doubt it's been helping my process. Too bad you can't do a video on how make the language fun. Because I remember reading a book (which mentions you several times in it). That you have to love the language because at the begnning it might be lust. But it's like a relationship. To help keep it, you have to be passionate and build the love of it to keep it alive or something amongst those lines :P.

  • When I grow up, I wanna be like you Steve. Not kidding, lol.

  • I will be patient ... thanks Steve
