Growing up just a few miles apart in Michigan, Meryl Davis and Charlie White got their start when they met in a local skating rink and were destined to become one of the best ice dancing teams in the world. They won the Ice Skating World Championships in 2011 and 2013, and are among the favorites heading into the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

00:15 Meryl's Mom: When they were little they barely spoke to each other. They didn't have to. And they don't even now, talk a lot, they just get it; they just know. They're totally opposites but somehow they fit together and they work.
00:28 Meryl: I need a beat.
00:35 [On Screen] start story
00:37 Meryl's Dad: Two kids were being raised about a mile and a half apart from each other. Didn't know each other went to different schools.

00:43 Meryl's Dad: Charlie saw Meryl skating and told his mother that
00:46 Charlie's Mom "She is the best ice skater I've ever seen in my whole life!" It was like the rest is history you know. She grabbed his hand they took off and they never looked back
00:55 Charlie: There was really no other partner for me. And as soon as I skated with Meryl it was natural.
1:01 Meryl: Yea, no other partner for me either.
1:03 Charlie's Mom: Here they are, they've only had one try out together and the coach said, "I think that we could get them to Lake Placid this year." And, you know, we're like, "Lake Placid? Holy smokes, that's like, where they had the Olympics!"
1:17 Meryl's Dad: They won.
1:18: Meryl's Mom: They were the youngest ones there and they won and everybody was shocked because nobody had seen them or heard of them before.
1:23 Meryl's Dad: And they were just little teeny kids
1:26 [On Screen]: 6:53AM Arctic Edge Skating Rink Canton, MI
1:29 Meryl: Eating right prepares us for each day and when you feel good mentally and physically it allows you to really take in all of the amazing things that I know we experience.
1:40 Charlie: We have to walk into the rink ready to go and if you want to make the most of the day starting with a great breakfast is part of that
1:46 Meryl: We grew up ten minutes down the road from one other which is so rare. To have personalities that go so well together we just we had so much possibility I think from the start.
1:59 [On Screen] In 2011, Meryl and Charlie became the first American ice dancers to win the World Championship
2:04 [On Screen] They did it again in 2013.
2:05 Charlie: Going to the Olympics, it's as challenging as it gets. We're not aiming for silver or bronze. We'll be disappointed if we don't win. That's our dream and that's what we're working to achieve.
