The pantograph of DB AG 101 100 produces violent electric arcs (power drain up to ~8000 kVA in the end of the movie!) on an icy catenary.

  • Wooha! Ist das "normal"?

  • Es ist selten aber der Stromabnehmer hält das problemlos aus.

  • The catenary is strung zig zag so the pan doesn't wear excssively in one spot.

  • I'm always vaguely amazed that overhead wire systems work as well as they do.

  • Great Video. I see the sparks appear very blue, so I assume like some other commentators that this sequence has been filmed in cold weather.

    Nice Job

  • I thought this had to be in cold weather. One sees a lot of arcing when the catenary is covered in ice:-)))

  • @inngglstoodt

  • Ice on catenary always makes for great footage, I have only ever seen it on days when I havent had a camera! Can make a mess of the carbon contact on the pantograph and affect power pickup though. In the UK ice breaker trains can be known to run overnight to help clear it. Good video.

  • electric machines are the best one.

  • @Sniper12890 if the Alp is dual than yes. See bombardier site for infos about.

  • This adtranz locomotive has grate sound and power. very cool movie thanks for share.

  • has bit traction on the locomotive. Drags all time need the current the arch shows the power need. Adtranz locomotives are very advanced. Grate move.
