Although I am a guitar student, he is absolutely right. Learn to read notes A,B,C,D,E,F,G (sharp and flat) AND 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 (tonic (name of the key) 2 frets,2 frets,1fret,2frets,2frets,2fre­ts and 1 fret back to the beginning). This will turbo charge your playing like nothing else. You can play absolute notes(A,B,C) for years and learn nothing. Once you learn the numeric scale you understand the pattern in any key. Excellent lesson!
