Thats a little something we like to call "Spring Twist" The axle and wheels are creating a powerful moment around the wheels axis that the leaf springs cant take it. Being made of hardened steel, they bend veeerry slightly, then they snap. Poor dude should have put more money on dog bones.

you can easily see it. his 4link wrapped and that caused his coil over shock to rupture. thats the hissing sound you hear. its the nitro charge leaking out from them. im sure his driveline was fine, its got a slip on the rear section. bad news for everything else though.
