When Michael Larson played, they just played the game and investigated after. Why could they not have hosted "authentically" for 5 minutes and investigated for 3 months instead of investigated for 45 minutes and hosted "suspiciously" for 5 minutes? Take all the investigation you want later, but you have to act surprised for at least a few minutes.

Obviously, with the 45-minutes stop, they had revealed to Drew that the guy hit it right on the nose. They had to award the prize since there was no way to "prove" that any wrongdoing occurred. It must have been Drew's personal opinion that something was fishy.
You may be making an invalid point trying to cmpare Drew and Bob in these incidents, because was there ever a time when S&P was involved for something during Bob's run?
The guy's "shock" also seemed a little bit fake to me as well.

There was a 45-minute stop down between the showcases & the reveal, standards & practices thought something was fishy and investigated.
Nothing illegal - turned out there was a Golden-Roader, who has been to the show 100+ times, in the audience who provided bids to the contestant throughout the entire show, including the showcase. He happened to have seen these particular prizes in a showcase before and knew the exact price.

I pretty much had the same reaction as Carrey. The odds of doing this are not that high, most people get within a few hundred dollars so it's no big deal, maybe 500:1 Compare that to the number of possible humans in a DNA stran 4^3,000,000,000 ie 4x4x4x4x4....3 billion times

i think drew was more so shocked than anything to give a reaction. it probably hit him hard after the show.
