Logging companies in Sarawak-many of which are illegal, are notorious for their violence against traditional land owners whose lands are often encroached by the loggers. Mingat Ak Yakin and his son suffer a near-fatal beating at the hand of a logger which encroached on his ancestral land. He survive to tell his story with his now hoarse voice. Sarawak state government under Taib Mahmud has turned a blind eye to these prevalent incidents. The coming state elections will see if the natives are prepared to turn a blind eye on his government's tolerance of such violence!
