I agree with her, they are real kilts and real tartans, any highland dancer knows that. and sorry i just had to agree with what was being said my MissDavidsonBabyyx.

Sorry, I was going to correct what you said on the film but it looks like most people have! But there is one point ill say, Sometimes a dancer will see another dancer in an outfit they like and so when its time for them to get a new oufit.. thats the colour theyll choose. Or, some dancers get intence reds and blues in order to get noticed.. hope this helps :]

the white background is so the BLACK ghillie (dance shoes) can be more easily seen by the judges... they ARE also a tad bit less distracting as the traditional or modern tartans, the dancers look more uniform with the white backgrounds... NOW you CAN still wear the traditional tartans it's just generally considered a disadvantage as the judges can't see the intricate footwork as easily as with the dress tartans. you're more likely to see the traditional tartans in the pre-premier levels though.

They have the dancers use the white Dress background and the rules are VERY strict. The only creative outlet for dancers is the Choreography, and the Dance teachers hate it because they don't really have a say as to its content. That is what my daughter loves most so her teacher won't teach her. There for no other teacher will teacher will either so she dances for everyday entertainment and makes it exciting again. Take a look at one of her choreography's.

old alister, highland dancing kilt's are real kilts, made form real tartan, they are based on a white background (dance tartans) which is the only difference. dance tartans come in all different colours and many are named, i.e Cunningham dance tartan. Sorry but i had to comment as what you were saying was untrue!

The point has been made by other commentators and is well taken. As a Scot who used to wear a Campbell kilt (until my waistline expanded!) I was influenced by my experience of the heavy MALE kilt and assumed wrongly that the girls' kilts were inferior imitations.
