The Foundations were a surprisingly obscure late-'60s outfit, considering that they managed to reach the tops of the both the British and American charts more than once in the space of a year and had a solid three years of recordings. At the time of their debut in mid-1967, they were hailed as being among the most authentic makers of soul music ever to emerge from England -- the best practitioners of the Motown sound to be found on the far side of the Atlantic -- and were also accepted in jazz circles as well. "Baby Now that I've Found You," "Build Me Up Buttercup" and "In the Bad, Bad Old Days" were the biggest hits for this multiracial octet, made up of Londoners and West Indians.

This tune was written by Foundations guitarist Alan Warner.

  • Glad you like the song, As you can appreciate, I cant give out his contact details here, but If you send me your email address, I'll pass it on to him if you like...

  • You are correct,, this great tune (perfect for The Foundations) was written in the 80's with a view to The Foundations reforming again, athough it was a few years later when two of the original members Colin Young and Alan Warner did reform for some one off gigs and a tour. "You can't fool me" is a permanent fixture in the set of Alan Warner's FOUNDATIONS as it does go down exceptionally well with the audiences.

  • Thanks a lot. When are going to do another guitar solo on youtube man?

  • The Foundations Keyboardist TONY GOMES is a SRI LANKAN...This track ROCKS ! Thanx for the post. Would love to hear from Tony or anyone who knows him.

  • @pluto00011 , That's right. I remember you saying before that there were a couple of songs that were demoed and never recorded. I love the rerecorded version of "New Direction" that Alan & Clem Curtis did on the same release that this one came from. It's a pity that AW's guitar was so low in the mix. Also that track "Keep On Loving You" is outstanding. I'm scratching my head to think who originally did it. Clem , Colin and Hue are all great singers. Have a soft spot for Clem's voice though.

  • Ive never heard this on the 2 comps of foundations I have. It almost sound like an 80 revival atempt. Still a great tune.

  • cool song
