Eritrea Travel: St Joseph's Cathedral in Asmara, Eritrea, is a large Romanesque style cathedral in the centre of the city that was built when Eritrea was an Italian colony. The building took six years to construct and was consecrated in 1922. Its tall Gothic tower is loosely based on that of the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster, London. The tower rises 57 metres into the sky and it is possible to tour the tower and see fantastic views of the art deco city. On the cathedral site, there is also a primary school, a monastery, and a convent, all of which have existed since the initial construction of the cathedral.The Asmara Cathedral is located in Asmara, Eritrea. Eritrea is located in NE. Africa. (Africa Travel)

  • @Amerikaten italians and eritreans will stand untied for ever viva italia viva eritrea

  • @apulian78 r u actually proud of the colonial history of Eritrea???

  • thumb up for being a happy and proued Eritrean

  • @mephisto1895

    but they didn't listen because it was inconvenient to fight with Italy at the time but Italy and Germany invaded the rest of Europe, they then went to the aid of Ethiopia, and England sent troops from Sudan and Kenya and they pushed the Italians out 5 years later and got the country back, but it was not a colony, that's a historical fact.

  • @mephisto1895

    Ethiopia was the only country in the League of Nations from Africa, which is quite a thing in itself at the time, most other African countries where enslaved; and he went and warned of the Fascist invasion

  • @mephisto1895

    The historical fact Italy did invade Ethiopia in the 1940s, they were there for 5 years but there was never a colony because Ethiopians never relinquished control, gave in to the invasions, so they basically fought for 5 years; Haile Selassie who was the Emperor at the time left the country to sort of gain support in the West, and only when the fascists invaded Europe; because Haile Selassie in 1925 when to the League of Nations;

  • A beautiful, factual and well balanced clip.

    Well done.

    Asmara is indeed at Jewel in the Horn of Africa.
