http://www.colletts.co.uk/via-ferrata-and-klettersteig.html Via Ferrata in the Italian Dolomites - Via Ferrata are, in effect, a range of protected scrambling routes, comprised of skilfully installed fixed cables, ladders and gorge-spanning bridges, which assist ascents to high levels, from which you walk on, often to a nearby rifugio, or back to the starting point via a path. Arabba, Corvara and Pedraces are close to many of the best routes in the Dolomites.

Via Ferrata are GREAT. In Austria, any section with even mild exposure will usually have a nice steel cable for you to clip on to.
Contrast that with the UK, where every year novice ramblers find themselves on Aonach Eagach or even Crib Goch in a roaring gale wondering how they're going to get off and wishing they were somewhere else.....
