@Gillman10able Most singaporean can't really "switch" from singlish to proper english. I heard singlish in very formal occasion often. Viola is right that we are actually promoting singlish because it's fun and everyone uses it.  It's not about the accent, we need to speak proper english. I am proud to be singaporean and i love this beautiful country but I just can't say that i am proud of singlish.....

I left SG many years ago and to be honest, when i hear singlish, i actually feel "nostalgic"! miss home....Anyway, i think people like you could switch to good english but not everyone can. Some singaporean actually learn singlish by listening to others. We are actually "promoting" singlish in a way because is fun. I believe i still have some in me and i don't mind the accent, like you said, every country has its own. It's more like proper english!

@viola128 But do you think we should stop what we are known for just cause people perceive it as "lousy english"? We can speak proper english if we want to, it's just that most of us speak singlish and we understand each other. Alot of americans have their own slang. Like the texan slang for example. Singlish is perceived as bad because singapore has no original language. Our main language is english,so people will look at our english first. But i say singlish is our talent and am proud if it.

We should start teaching school children even teachers to use proper English. The younger generation could help us to change our way of English speaking.

unfortunately, singlish is killing this beautiful country. I think students and educated singaporean should start speaking proper english. The lady is this video probably had no choice, never given a chance to learn proper speaking. The way we speak do represent our country when we are in overseas. it is part of our appearance. i love my country but really think that we could do better.
