Ever since I saw "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" on the big screen in 1975, I've been a fan of stop motion animator Ray Harryhausen. This was one of my first successful (!) attempts to create an animated epic. Ok, so my animation was jerky, my creatures poorly designed and the acting...well, not much worse than Patrick Wayne in Ray's "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger," but my enthusiasm was there from the start. The original version had a soundtrack copped from various Bernard Herrman scores, but since Youtub won't allow pirated stuff (wisely enough) this version of "Fever Dream" is MOS. Enjoy! And be kind!
dude that is so cool ! wow I'd pay for a better quality version (no youtube compression) on dvd maybe with a little interview with you now 34 years later, get the wife to shoot it maybe I think this is a gem and something I'd buy, it'd be worth it !

Wow. Five exclamation points. Not bad for an 8mm epic from the 70s!

special effects are amazing, how did you do them? Split screen? I'm very impressed. We made lots of movies but never did any FX. Yours are very impressive -- that monster is scary!

Yes, a split screen was employed to insert the creature into the live action, usually with a still image project on an RP screen, but sometimes a live shot (in which case I'd shoot the live shot first, then go back and do the animation right away after rewinding the film). It was basically my very crude attempt to replicate Harryhausen's Dynamation process. Ah, the enthusiasm of youth. Another version of the monster appeared in my film, The Hole, also on YouTube. Check it out.
