Bobby Lewis live 9-2006

Trumpet player extraordinare live in concert at PianoForte, Chicago, IL. Bobby has been the first call trumpet player for recordings in Chicago & LA for over 30 years. Ear candy!
Note: this was shot with a tiny Canon sd700is still camera that can capture video, but no zoom, and since it is one take from one angle you get what you get. This explains the jerky movement (since it was hand held) and pans back and forth from Bobby and the pianist.

I actually heard Schleuter when I was in

Boston years ago. He is not close to Roberts' tone & special feel.

You can keep your Schleuter. He's too damn traditional & pure.

Bobby has such a lush a warm tone. Butter is a good word. Schleuter's tone hurts. Great for classical I guess, but not for me. Like classical saxophone. Nobody in the outside world sounds like classical sax!

I don't get why he is trumpet player extraordinare. There were some really bad intonation problems. he just sounded so stressed while playing some of it. And some of the tonguing was kinda weird.

Im really sorry, but basing on this video i cant say that this guy has a really great tone plus when his thongueing was bad.

feel like im not even worthy to comment as this guy is obviously a legend, howevr its a beautiful tone, you can have all the fancy licks you want, nothing beats purity of tone like this though

Bobby has an absolutely GOLDEN tone! In person, he is just such a GREAT player!! His trumpet sounds like a flugel and his flugel sounds like butter. MARVELOUS sound!!!
