Why I carry a GUN

This is a story of how a gun, a Glock 23 a .40 caliber sidearm saved the my son and I from being assaulted by a road rage induced maniac. This is not a sponsored video by the NRA but I do support them because they fight for our rights to be able to continually protect our families. Just brandishing a gun saves many lives.

Almost all anti gun legislation is based on the false assumption that criminals will obey the law. The fact that criminals don't obey the law means that law abiding citizens need to carry guns concealed so that criminals don't know who we are.

@sharkinthebox Probably, would have treated it differently, most likely I would have stayed in the vehicle. But getting out of the vehicle turned all his attention towards me and not towards my son.

Hmm, why did you feel the need to get over in front of him? Couldn't you just slow down and get behind him? I'm a pro-gun person, but cutting someone off in traffic is just stupid...

@1954agb The road was ending, my vehicle was at least a half length ahead of his truck, I signaled, but he did not let me in. By the time it became a crucial matter (I was about to crash off the road) I did not have the option of slamming on my brakes because that would make him hit me because I was committed into the lane via the merge.

@chr0305 I guess it's basic psychology to vilify something that you have an irrational fear about, but to try to vilify this man's actions because you have an irrational fear of an inanimate object supersedes irrationality and borders on acute psychosis. You don't have a problem with self defense, you don't think it's wrong, you are just scared of guns. Simply say that and stop trying to turn every gun owner into a manic vigilante. This is getting ridiculous.

@chr0305 Yes, if somebody was trying to kill me I would try to prevent them from doing that. So would you, if you tell me differently I will think you are a liar. The person wanted to beat my brains in with a big flashlight. Just the presence of my gun prevented that from happening. Why do you think Police carry guns?

Regardless of how it got started, when I used to end up in situations like that (I don't anymore, I've learned tricks to avoid them), it took a lot more than 2 turns before I would give up and risk a confrontation.

Since the incident seems to have gone unreported(?), I would speculate there were no witnesses.

If the road was clear, as soon as he got about 20 feet from his truck door, I would have reversed, turned around, and been gone before he got that big truck turned around.

I'm not going to say the situation was unavoidable, I wasn't there, but getting into a situation like that is a bad outcome almost no matter what because there are serious legal consequences no matter how it ends.

I'm not sure if you reported it, but he could have and it could have caused all kinds of legal havoc.

I think you'd be shocked what a car can drive through with minimal damage, at least less damage than most people cause when they pull all they way up to a parking stop, lol.

I carry concealed, but not as much as I should. Thank you for encouraging me to do the right thing to protect my family. It seems as though the longer this "down economy" drags on, the more irrational and desperate people become. Oh yeah, I do practice, and I have personally taught several first-times how to shoot and that guns are not bad.
