Red Baraat - 2010 Lotus World Music & Arts Festival

This rousing performance by Red Baraat brings Saturday night of the 2010 Lotus World Music & Arts Festival to a close. A "baraat" is a Hindi marriage procession with music, singing, and dancing. Red Baraat's exuberant sound marries rhythm and funk lines with North Indian bhangra.

I saw them on May 1, 2011 at the New Orleans Jazzfest, standing close to the stage. It was an overwhelming experience. This video gives some sense of how Sunny Jain drives the band and the audience into a state of estatic frenzy. I too look forward to seeing them again.
