  • Hi Nick! I have a question: I got this exercise with simple poi (thank you!!), but I have some problems with fire poi ( I tried to do spiral wraps without gloves)....is it exactly the same thing? Or I should consider something else with fire? Because, doing this movement, chains hurt my hands, is it regular?? Probably it's a stupid question :) , could this problem depend on my fire poi (my chains are quite heavy) or it's me? Thank you!! You're great!! Ciao ciao!

  • @CHIARA89Peixinho There is no totally safe way to do this with fire. Some people wear wrist-guards or gloves, made out of cotton or leather or another non-synthetic material, but there is always some danger. I put little kevlar sleeves around the 3 inches of chain near the poi. That helps but i still get little burns!

  • I don't really have this move down yet but I'm gonna go light up my fire poi and try till I get it!!! ;)

  • I recommend getting really good at them without fire. I've seen several people get burned doing spiral wraps. It's a bit of a silly thing to practice with fire I think. Be careful!

  • In the 'variations' section, are you referring to Burning Dan? I've been performing with rope dart for nearly a year now, and a very good friend of mine has been a fire buddy for practice, and have learned many isolation-style techniques from her poi style as a result. She has been doing poi for three years now, and her style is remarkably like yours - and she learned from him, including this spiral(infinite) wrap. Weird, cause I just sent her your video on hyperloop

    TL;DR RIP Burning Dan.

  • 4:28 made me giggle.

  • 1:15 awkward turtle :D <3

  • My favorite thing to do is to sit in my computer chair and then spin around and do a wrap above my head :P so funn...

  • @koulis0985 if done correctly your hands stay at the base of the flame and they bounce off quick enough to where the flame isn't on you long enough to burn... the real risk is in hot chains but, i have yet to burn myself doing them at any speed(slower seems to look better). by far my favorite thing to do with poi though. took me a while to build the balls to it with fire but once i did and realized it doesn't burn, it became my favorite... people seem to love seeing it.

  • i have learned to play poi because him

  • well even if you do it perfect in practice how the hell you are not gonna get burned when light them up???
