This is a video tour of a Superliner Roomette onboard Amtrak's Texas Eagle when I went to Chicago earlier this year. The video also includes a short tour of the sleeper car. This might be of interest to those who are thinking about riding on a train, but have never done so or for train enthusiasts. The song is "Lemon" by U2.

  • Ive ridden coach on an Amtrak Train (crescent) and I ate in the dining car....now what I have to say is this...in coach i didnt sleep as well as I could have and I dunno about being that close to people I dont know lol....now as for the dining car I met a computer programmer and a lady that was a scientist for the Atlanta CDC

  • @ac30165 - When did you ride the Crescent? I just rode it recently myself from New Orleans to DC.

  • I'm sure you sleep better in a room, but what about all the interesting people you miss out on by not riding in coach?

  • @burchified This is true, although I did have very good experiences meeting people in the dining car. I will be riding coach later this year (the Carolinian) and will post a new video about my experiences soon after.

  • who's playing that music?

  • @elnalgon4u -- The song is "Lemon" by U2.

  • I love how the K5LA sounds from the inside of the sleepers, that is of course when the sleepers are up front like they should be all the time

  • A long distance Amtrak trip is something you'll take with you for the rest of your life. DO IT. I just got back from a round trip on the Southwest Chief, La Plata, MO to Los Angeles. It's slower than flying but who cares? Amtrak feeds you more than you can eat & the food is great, you get to meet & eat with all sorts of interesting people (there were several Amish on both legs of the trip, for instance), and of course, you take the train for the scenery, which is excellent.

  • While it costs more to ride a train with a sleeper accommodation, Amtrak provides the meals in the dining car. If you ride in coach you have to pay for your meals in the dining car. I welcome the privacy although its very modest, well cozy in size.

  • @Reving19 I rode on the Crescent in the 1990s early 2000's I believe it was summer I went from Anniston AL to New Haven CT

  • @burchified I love eating with different people on the train! I get to meet and make some new friends!

  • the sound of the train horn makes me want to go somewhere on the train! I rode it to Los Angeles last year from San Antonio Tx. 29 hours.
