I spent the day at one of Toyko's biggest and most famous festivals, the Sanja Matsuri. Over the three days about 1 million people visit. The main purpose of the festival is the procession of three portable shrines (mikoshi) around the neighborhood blessing the local citizens... and getting really drunk.

It was a good time as festivals usually are. If there was a theme of the day it was "guzen" which in Japanese means "by chance." I ran into several people I knew who also were there checking out the festival. It was a good time!

The cafe I visited in the video is a cool place and gaijin friendly. Check it out if you are ever in Asakusa.

  • When I was in Tokyo, my first time, it was during this festival. I had a traditional, blue kimono and I carried this thing with the locals.

    Fun experience, indeed.

  • Brilliant music choice at the end. And interesting to see some Yakuza guys.

  • I visited that same place and stood where you where a couple years ago, with my school. Can you tell me if this is true. They told us, that that gold thing in the back, was representing Poop......

  • When I see the.. um "golden poo" I always thought it was Sperm... So I would call it "The Golden Sperm" :P Just my thoughts

  • golden poop. lol!! cool yakuza guys. it's not enough that u know ur ordinary and poor but picking out a 'regular fortune', that's too much. lmao!!

  • Ramen Coma is probably your gallbladder struggleing to keep up with all the oil in the ramen, try and avoid oily ramens or get them served in better oils like canola or olive. Sorry dude I get it too, but worse with pains in my side because I wouldn't lay off when I should have when I was younger. COme to Texas I'll hook you up with some tacos, it's what gets me over here anyways.
