  • I didn't know him, let alone the band...but this I do know.As a young gay man(that, being such a small part of who I am)I looked up to Ricky and the band because they were exactly who they wanted to be...no explanations...no excuses.Fantastic and brilliant as one should be.Memories like this make me be a part of the process here at the Maui AIDS foundation.I'll always look up to the Ricky I knew and what I got from him via music & inspiration.Rick's smiling,GET TESTED! Luv N' Aloha <3Chef Raja<3

  • @gahrzahk Yes, he was great. My favorite playing of his was Mesopotamia. It was simple but it said a lot. Even Les Paul made mention of his guitar playing as an example of uniqueness, and said he was a great guitarist. I think it said a lot about Les Paul to show appreciation for someone who clearly wasn't anywhere as good as him. Buddy Rich on the other hand was "Oh if it ain't jazz it ain't worth playing." He'd never have seen anything of value in a group like the B52s.

  • @elixergtarist They were just different from each other; unique. You can't compare them because they had a different sound, vision, ideas. Hendrix will always be my fave, but they all had imagination. You probably heard that Ricky had a number of guitars on stage, one with four strings, another with three, all tuned in weird ways, but he was just great.

  • @gahrzahk I don't know if I'd put him in the same class as the others you mentioned, but he was definitely a unique and one of a kind player. He was irreplaceable, as he made the B52s sound the way they did. Listening to him always makes me wonder how he came up with that stuff.

  • :....) <3

  • Ricky was an awesoem guitarist. I was very sad to hear 25 years ago that he had passed away from an uncontrollable desease. Ricky I hope you found your bliss in heaven. I'm sure you're still a member on the deadbeat club.

  • made me cry... twice

  • Thank you so much for posting this.

  • I miss you Ricky! - Pisces. Loved computers and hot tamales : )

  • I think I miss you more tonight, than any other night on the face of this planet and all of the stars in the galaxies that twinkle so bright...

Looking forward to seeing you at the Big "G" check out stand...

    As Phoebe of "friends" said...

"we will meet at the check out stand."

    XXOO :-)
