I'm trying to see if 720x480 (16:9 ratio) would make viewing quality much better compared to my normal 640x480 (4:3 ratio) recording which I normally do.

The normal 640x480 videos I do you can tell I have two versions:
- Unedited version 640x480 which you can see the black border on YT
- Edited cropped version 640x360 which is no black border and full screen on YT (I edited remove the top and bottom black bar away from the original recording video).

I'm testing to see if 720x480 would be like the "edited version" but better quality since it is not cropped or anything since there is no black bar.

I am still using S-Video since that is the best my TV-card can do but all I did was put it to 720x480 on both my PS3 and TV-card recorder so it'll recording in that resolution.

The reason why I am doing this test is a few things:

- Maybe much better Quality compatibility to YT with widescreen format (near HD quality maybe although it won't be true HD since I don't have component or HDMI ability)?

- Planning to buy a widescreen monitor soon.. was thinking of
LG M237WD-PM Black 23" 5ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen 16:9 Full 1080P LCD Monitor w/ Built-in Speaker 300 cd/m2 20000:1 w/ Built-in ATSC Digital Tuner

Since it can use component (which means I can buy a better capture card maybe) plus see Final Fantasy XIII in HD glory!

No other monitor has component ability nor any capture has HDMI input/output... and the Hauppauge HD-PVR is probably one I would love to use for recording gameplay videos too (but component is the best it got).

If anyone know about this monitor or any ideas/tips, I'm all up to hear about it!

Tell me if you like 720x480 better than the 640x480 (first wait and make sure there's a HQ/HD option before stating your opinion)!

Post away!

  • There's actually a pretty big difference. This video in Normal Quality looks just about as good (if not better) than the last video you posted in High Quality.

  • I didn't notice it at all (in terms of differences) until you mentioned it specifically..

I did a double screen test and you are right. lol

I can see the "Verse 1" and Halo Money count clearer in Test #01 than compared to my regular 640x480 videos.

  • So when you record on 720x480 you get those two vertical black "stripes" (if we can call them like that) on both side of the actual video? The reason I ask its because thats the problem Im having with my videos but I couldnt figure it out until I saw this.... please let me know.

  • this looks really good

  • The quality is awesome. You should keep the 720x480 setting.

  • I think its looks good might be slightly better then your other videos
