@pyro226 - Apparently, this cueball who calls himself a "journalist" doesn't realize that many Americans cannot afford to conserve anything, many are still out of work and they need to drive, and those who have jobs can't afford to fill up their tanks much less feed their families. "I think the best solution to high oil prices is high oil prices" and I think you're a dumb ass.
"They spur us to conserve" No, they limit the citizens and force conservation. National min wage is $7.25 - around $6 after taxes. At a decent 20mpg with $4/gal, that's 30mi per hour of work. Most people with a full time, min wage job are willing to drive up to 15 miles per direction. So going to work 5 days a week, gas drains 12.5% of their earned money.
