A metaphorical tragedy in animation. Written, animated and narrated by Delisa Productions.

THE VIOLET AND THE ROSE

Written by
Lisa Aldrich

Winter unlocked the doors to Spring
A time for love to bloom
And so begins our tale
Of passion and its doom.

Two beds of flowers
Growing wild in a thicket
The Violet and the Rose
Divided by a picket. (fence)

A pretty red bud
Waiting to be born
Stretched her delicate petals
In the early light of morn.

Her slender stalk
Swayed with gentle grace
Dew shone like diamonds
Upon her lovely face.

Over the wooden fence
A handsome Violet turned his head
To admire the little Rose
In the opposite bed.

But when she caught him spying
He quickly shunned away
To join his basking brothers
In the warmth of summer day.

"Come into my garden,
Shy Violet, do not fear."
Called the pretty red Rose
Drawing ever near.

"I noticed you watching me,
I admit my intrigue too."
But the more the Rose urged
The further away he grew.

And so the shrinking Violet
With each passing day
Adored the Rose from afar
His passion held at bay.

How he longed to hold her
Touch her blushing cheek
Inhale the perfume of her bloom
Hear the music she would speak.

"Come into my garden,
It's easy if you try
Stretch your vine toward the fence
And you'll reach it by and by."

"I have heard," said the Violet
"Your beauty can deceive
That the thorns you carry underneath
Can cut and make you bleed."

"Not to worry, handsome one,
I long for your embrace
I'll be mindful that my thorn
Will never harm thy face."

Throwing caution to the wind
His love for her immense
Passion gave him the courage
To reach the picket fence.

"Meet me in the moonlight
While the others are asleep
They would never understand
The secret love we keep."

They waited for the moon to rise
For the blossoms to nod and close
Then two lovers climbed the fence
The Violet and the Rose.

As he entwined around her neck
There was no need for talk
He shyly kissed her velvet cheek
She gently caressed his stalk.

She engulfed him with her petals
The Violet and Rose were one
There they lay in ecstasy
Until the dawning of the sun.

When he left her warm embrace
To unwind around the thorn
Blinded by his love for her
His fragile stem was torn.

In horror, she reached for him
But realized her defeat
The Violet fluttered to the ground
To rest upon her feet.

Anguish snapped her slender neck
The Rose landed at his side
Their love was worth the risk
So together they had died.

Two flowerbeds divided by a picket
As our tale draws to a close
Two lover's eternal embrace
The shy Violet and his Rose.

" A glooming peace this morning with it brings. The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head. Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things....For never was a story of more woe...."
William Shakespeare

  • (sigh) The first video I've watched tonight and it's all downhill from here. Nothing's going to touch this, Lees! Lovely, magical and sweetly told. Will would be proud. I know I am! ; ) Your animation was delightful, as well! Big smile for your fireflies. ;))

You've got it goin' on all over the place, gf! I love you to death! xo's

You can't fool me, though. It may be cloaked under the guise of romance but I know a violet, slasher film when I see one. ;P

  • Ha, ha, so right Toni.

Had to throw in some kind of death scene in there or it wouldn't be a Delisa Production.

Sent you a PM with more.

Thank you for all your kind comments, it honestly gives me the drive to make these videos and always to test new ground.

  • Very good well done 5*******..

  • I like it. Are you the voice-over talent? Is this a ONE-MAN band production as well?

I like to learn how to do this. I use iMovie though. I am starting to see animation as an easier channel to travel for beginning film makers; especially the ONE-MAN band (production staff, crew, writers and artists)

Thanks. Sad ending but REALISTIC nonetheless. Who is Lisa Aldrich?

  • i love this : )

What a great vision you have for animation!

I am a super fan of you and pop's work.
