this is a home recording of a song written for a close friend of mine.
it is written from words scribbled onto a piece of paper while he was sitting on the side of the road only hours after his 19 year old sons funeral. his story was a heartbreaking one yet he always seemed to find hope in his words. sad yet hopeful is how i would describe the first impression i got as i read his verses.
i hope you enjoy and i hope to put the full story up soon.
Thank you

SUNSHINE BOY

My sunshine boy was born
On a warm November morning in 85
His blue eyes opened up
And he looked at me
Its as if he had already knew me
That look of trust he gave me
We both knew that this was meant to be

But I sit here today with my head in my hands
Find comfort in praying that god understands
When he took you the day would seem so grey

Where are you now my sunshine boy?
everybodys missin you

Theres a brand new star in the sky tonight
And it shines with the most beautiful light
The heavens put it there so we
Could remember how you used to be
But I wish I could hold you oh so tight

I sit here today with my head in my hands
Your name on my lips
And a list of demands
When they took you away the day became so grey

Where are you now my sunshine boy
everybodys missin my sunshine boy
Where are you now my sunshine boy
everybody misses your sunshine

Its a sombre song
Such a sombre song and we sing it alone so long
With the words so wrong but were learning
God help the man who was hurting his friends
He never made their excuses for them

So god help the man who was hurting his friends
We never make their excuses for them
So god help the man whos forgetting his friends

So I sit here today with the sun on my face to say goodbye

  • @grantdenman Your reply has brought me back here to weep again.

I've not really collaborated with anyone as a co-writer beyond making the odd suggestion here and there - a bit like a mentor would, but that's something else again.

I can't think of anything that would enhance this song beyond the inherent beauty and heartbreaking sentiment already there. You are solid and real. What do you have in mind? you know I'm classically inclined....
