@springloadedchicken Blame NBC they retained the rights to the music and to the band name I believe. I think his band leader and Carson discussed this on the last show. Saying when they went on tour they would call themselves 'The Ex-Tonight Show Band'. Might not have been the very last show might have been the night before, not sure.
Where is this Carnac bit from 2:31? This can't be the only second survived?
I mean please this can't be it. Which fool hold back this little move and destroyed the rest? Isn't the world crazy? Hopefully at least the Carnac segment survived completly.
that was always the mystery about Carson.......he lived to do that show....yet once the ending theme played, and he exited the studio......he was almost Howard Hughs-like in his need for privacy. Ed McMahon once said....you never saw a more uncomfortable person at the few parties Johnny ever went to. He was comfortable with people only when he was on stage
@springloadedchicken I think it goes without question that he was the greatest. He was the king of late night. HE "started" so many careers. A spot on Carson, was practically guaranteed success. Many a stand up comic owe their career to Johnny.
And In January 2010, Johnny would roll over in his grave as Jay Leno stole the Tonight Show back from Johnny's true successor as the King of Late Night, Conan O'Brien.
'who do you trust' was interesting to watch, you can see his interest in people, he spent more time with the individuals than the show. :D i guess the programmers may have had some issue with that? but, i don't know the hisotry of that embellishement... carson was on soo many contributions in broadcast, it's hard to take time in a relative accessment in representative study that is feasible... makes me think of what carey is doing now days, alot of shows too little time.
i remember.. he was the elvis in my late nigiht... i have soo many vhs tapes of programmed tapes recording his monologue and carson comedy players... when he died, god i got soo drunk in his tribute... in relativity of the broadcast final show, why the hell do we not have the original music in that show? not even in the releases.. unless something has changed.. why buna vista? the music was important.. sorry i've gone elvis on this rant but, the final show, the music was changed :((
What an awful newsreader.
They simply couldn't be bothered to find someone to come in for one hour who could lend a little dignity to this segment of the show?
