  • My understanding is that you use a water jet for most conventional fires and a fog for oil based fires. Patterns in between are also used in certain circumstances. Building fires are often fought from above using a ladder, but one problem with deployment from above is much of the water can evaporate before reaching the seat of the fire. A ground level deployment, if it can be safely done, does not suffer from this problem so badly.
