Lance Armstrong hurt in crash at Vuelta Castilla - RAW video

March 23, 2009 - Seven-times Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong fractured his right collarbone in a crash on the first stage of Spain's Vuelta Castilla y Leon on Monday, the head of his Astana team said.

"Clean collarbone fracture without complications. Should be fast recovery," Astana general manager Johan Bruyneel said in a statement released via Twitter (www.twitter.com).

Armstrong was caught up in an incident involving a group of riders on the 168.3-km leg between Paredes de Nava and Baltanas and appeared to be in pain as he was helped into an ambulance.

A statement on the race website (www.vueltacastillayleon.com) said the American had been taken to the University Clinic in Valladolid for treatment and organisers said he would be discharged later on Monday.

Monday's incident occurred with about 20 km remaining in the stage, which was won by Spaniard Joaquin Sobrino of the Burgos Monumental team ahead of David Vitoria of Rock Racing in second place and Jose Joaquin Rojas of Caisse d'Epargne in third.

no kidding, he's the crash master this year. this tour's been rough on all the riders but lance gets so much coverage it looks like he forgot how to ride lol.

Efectivamente, el tiempo dirá. En Julio hablaremos. Solo quería añadir una cosa. El ciclismo ya estaba inventado antes de que Armstrong ganase su primer Tour. A veces da la impresión de que para los estadounidenses el ciclismo se inventó en el año 99,..... Armstrong ha sido un buen ciclista pero nada más. Le ha fastidiado que Contador ganase el Tour 09. Debería estar contento, al fin y al cabo era su compañero de equipo ¿no dice que lo importante es el equipo?? Mucha prepotencia..

El Astana 2010 no será un super-equipo, hasta ahí de acuerdo. Pero eso no impedirá a contador luchar por el Tour. Lemond (ADR) 89, Pantani (Mercatone) 98, Armstrong (US Postal) 99, etc... no tenían grandes equipos y ganaron. RadioShack sí parece buen equipo, pero sus mejores corredores (Leipheimer y Kloden) no serán líderes. RadioShack no tiene nada que hacer porque trabajarán para un lider (Armstrong), que ya no es suficientemente fuerte.
