We're in Australia discussing the view of the night sky from down south.

Talking with amateur astronomer Paul Haese, based in South Australia, and former Sixty Symbols regular Dr Amanda Bauer, who is now working in Sydney. Extra interview footage at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPnRHGJx60M

Our thanks to the following astrophotographers who allowed us to use their images:

  • @youluvana She was just too excited to notice her mistake.

  • arg, i wish i saw this 2 weeks ago. i saw the stars with minimal light pollution when i went to the south coast (of australia) and would have loved to have known to look out for these things.

  • @HKragh no one cares, post it on facebook

  • @Ataeginaa You make yourself look very stupid, by your comments. The guy was expressing how he finds the subject boring, which is very much his own business, and you turn it into this war. I find Astronomy exiting, yet I have other branches of sciences, which really can't keep my attention for long. I hope I will not be attacked by people like you for that.

  • oh i thought the sun was the closest star to earth :D

  • LOOOOVE IT!!!

Lived in Australia for 25+ years now and you've sparked a curiosity to see more stars!

  • i've been watching the constellations every night this week ttrying to identify them and these are some i could to watch from my house: Orion , taurus, canis mayor, and the little one bunny and the constelation of the ship, i live in Chile and also i saw the southern cross but here they call it ""cruz del Sur"

  • I need more Amanda Bauer in my life *sigh*.
