That doesn't mean they "copied" or "stole" their song...

Just because someone sames the same chord progression, they didn't steal the song in question. They aren't even played in the same pattern.

Yup I'm a pretty big fan of The Smiths (Johnny Marr is an amazing guitar player) and Morrissey - especially his funny ones like "Last of the Famous International Playboys." I actually saw Morrissey live a couple months back, with Patti Smith opening. Pretty cool stuff. Although obviously the backing band were all hired musicians, they played "How Soon Is Now" and rocked it.

"hate to say i told you so" - exact same chord progression. So no, it's not us who are retarded.

i agree. saw them open for the presidents of the united states of america. absolute fucking trash... at first i thought the sound guy had turned off their monitors or something ... but every song without fail was either overladen with effects and/or sung completely out of tune. This song is pretty cool though (just not live haha)

I agree. The guitar is a complete rip off. It's only played slightly different and in a slightly different key. Anyone who thinks that riff is original and doesn't sound like "Hate to say I told you so" is a moron. I wouldn't even believe that it came subconsciously, cos it's such a well known catchy riff.
