I love to restore old farm equipment. You did a magnificent job with that cider press. Thanks for sharing!

Normally, you would put a cheesecloth sack in the barrel before you press the juice from the apple pieces so that you don't have chunks of apples coming through the slats; only the juice. These are still being sold brand new on the net. Also, I read that if you want really GOOD cider, use old, nasty looking, brown, bruised up apples. The brown spots are where the starches have been breaking down into sugar and makes a sweeter tasting cider. Looks like you have plenty of apples to work with!

I just found one of these (in poor condition) in an old house I was restoring. Now I know what it's SUPPOSED to look like. This will come in handy with all the apple trees I've planted. Thanks!
What do you do with all the old apple pieces? Beautiful old machine. I got my hand stuck in a cider press bout like that when I was a little kid. It was quite a time getting it out.

The pieces were dumped in the back yard in a circular cinder block area - for the deer to eat. They love the apple pieces! WOW on getting your hand stuck in one. You are lucky you didn't lose fingers or worse. Glad it's ok. Thx for writing.

Wonderful! I hope you get it looking like this and working as well eventually. What fun that will be. This was found old and abandoned in the woods of WV many years ago and baby, look at it now!! LOL Glad you liked the video. Good luck with yours. Maybe one day you will be posting it on YouTube too!
