Billy Mayerl (1902-59) was perhaps the best-known British composer of light piano music working in the mid-20th century. He played in hotel bands, was a prolific broadcaster and recording artist; and was also an educator - his 'Billy Mayerl School of Music' had branches all over the world. This piece was published in 1947. The score cover art shows a couple in 18th century dress ascending moonlit stairs leading to a turreted castle on a hill.

For much more information on Mayerl and his life and work, see the website of the UK-based Billy Mayerl Society:

  • Thanks for your kind comment. It is not a wel-known piece, and seems to have been published as an independent work.

  • Beautiful performance. I can't say I've ever heard this Mayerl before. Just lovely! Thank you for using your considerable gifts to perform and share Billy's music.
