Can I used this X power saver in the Philippines since we are using 220 volts while this unit has 120 volts? What can you suggest?

Why is it that these demo guys for this thing only use a motor to show you how much you can save?, why not hook up a TV or something else?...

scam
power factor correction "which this thing does" is a means of reducing the inductive current flowing in the supply. this will reduce the overall current flow upstream of thecorrection, but will not reduce the current flowing into the load. the reduced supply current will reduce the line losses in the supply, but will have little or no affect on the KWHr consumed.
like the old saying "to good to be good"

hope this ans helps; power factor correction, which this item does, the current, voltage and power factor at the motor do not change. the current and the power factor between the capactors aka the "xpower" and the supply are affected by the addition of the capacitors. the power drawn by the motor does not change. in effect, the capacitors "xpower" are supplying some of the magnetising current of the motor, instead of it comming from the supply.

I saw this for $99 on ebay.

To Paulusgnome
you said: "..Power factor correction reduces current drawn from the supply,.."
Aren't watts calculated by multiplying current times volts? If it lowers your 'current' how isn't it lowering the Kilo Watt Hour?

trash dont buy it

Power factor correction reduces current drawn from the supply, but it will not alter the KW consumed. As most domestic metering and charging is based on KWHrs, there will be no reduction in the power bill even if the current is reduced.
Unfortunately, there are many who promote the reduction in current as being a reduction in power therefore a reduction in bill. - Not true.
This product is electrical snake oil and is a scam.
All you are doing with this Capacitor in a box is changing the power factor,(and in turn lowering the line current) to make it more Leading. This will only work on inductive loads, but really in a residential application........
This will do nothing to save money, as the utility company will not charge you based on power factor, they charge on kwh!!! You did nothing to change the WATTS!!
I am an Electrician, this is 2nd year basic knowledge.

Why do they only use a motor? Because power factor only relates to inductive loads - motors, electric coils etc. This ad is about like all the others claiming to save energy - bogus. Just like all the products that will increase your fuel mileage,(inline magnets on fuel supply, hydrogen power units, intake fans, 200mpg carburators etc) this one is bogus too. Remember if it is too good to be true, it is. The easiest way to save on electric bills is to turn off what you are not using!
