  • They've been raising fees consistently for a while. Fees have gone up %160 since 2001, not including this new fee hike. What did they do with all of that money? I feel like the protest is not about what the university has to do to preserve the future, but about the waste and mispending of the UC system in the past and present. and since its a public university, they are mismanaging the public's tax dollars, not just student tuition.

  • hahaha, i go to Cal and i think the increase in fees is fucking unnecessary and wrong as it dilutes the academic pool of students and turns education into a mail-order delivery business. However, people at berkeley often get delusions of grandeur when it comes to protests and every protest has to be tied back to Mario Savio in some way and every speech, no matter how mundane the topic, has to be an overly-verbose and amusingly passionate affair. Just my opinion.

  • bullshit. the three main sources of income for the uc system is 1) medical payments 2) housing 3) parking fees.

so you are full of shit!

  • They should be this worried about what is happening to the US constitution ,this is part of it ,police state , this generation is going to inherit a huge tax burden and most of them are oblivious to it .

  • Berkeley students paying 1/3 of what it would cost in a private school for top-grade education. With $500 million cut from UC budget there was no other way to operate short of laying off professors and closing campuses. The hike only affects those whos families make more that $70k a year and low-income students do not face the hike. The hike itself is from $8,000 a year for UC undgergrad to 10k...hardly calamitous. The fact that the state is broke supporting all sort of social programs.
