Talk Talk and its lead singer/songwriter Mark Hollis is one of the most under appreciated bands from the 1980's. EMI Music, the label that signed Mark and Talk Talk, wanted to package the band as a New Wave act in the early 1980's. The music publisher attempted to brand the band, with a distinctive look and sound. In the early 80's, New Wave was the hot musical genre with bands like Duran Duran, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode, New Order, Yazoo and the Human League among many others. New Wave was meant to signify a new wave of British rock invasion, much like the first wave, The Beatles and Rolling Stones.

However, Talk Talk wasn't really New Wave, they were a genre of 1. The songs and melodies of the band were far more exotic and unique. They have more in common with Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, the Dire Straits and other ephemeral bands.

Because Talk Talk and Mark Hollis in particular refused to be pigeon holed by EMI, the music publisher became resentful and sued the band for their subsequent albums that were considered by the corporate giant to be non-commercial. The band experimented with sound and lyrics that were out of the mainstream. Mark began to openly sabatoge his record label publicly by refusing to cooperate with video productions. In the famous video "its my life", Mark refused to lip sync the lyrics and instead said "fuck you emi" in the video. That is why you see the lines across his mouth in that video. Eventually Mark and Talk Talk freed themselves of EMI. Some of the bands greatest music and Mark's solo albums as well, were produced after this separation.

I encourage those that enjoyed this video and are fans of Talk Talk to visit Eagle Rock entertainment and purchase this rare DVD. You won't be disappointed.

Don't be fooled by the low resolution of this video, which was necessary to upload to Youtube. The DVD's resolution is much better.
