Naomi Klein and Amy Goodman grill the former FED chairman, this is unprecedented (ie Greenspan having to answer real questions from people who know what to ask), very funny at times!

NAOMI KLEIN: Well, you mentioned Latin America, and, of course, there is a rise in leftwing political parties and movements in Latin America. But this is after decades of adherence to IMF structural adjustment policies, and it's precisely because those policies failed to lift people out of poverty in countries like Bolivia that you have this rise of what you're calling economic populism. It's because trickle-down economics was seen to have failed. But you also mentioned economic populism in Latin America in your book, and you blame it for inflation episodes and the collapse of regimes and the toppling of governments, and one of your examples was Chile in the 1970s. Was Chile -- was Salvador Allende's regime toppled because of inflation, or didn't the CIA have something to do with that?

ALAN GREENSPAN: Well, look, let's -- I'm using Latin America as an example. The key question is not Latin America. Let's get back to the United States. Let's get back to the world at large and face the issue of populism here. Remember, the populist issue in Latin America goes back to the roots of Spanish and Portuguese colonization.

NAOMI KLEIN: I'm aware of that, Mr. Greenspan, but there are many developmentalist policies that were trying to address those colonial disparities. They were called it import substitutions. And those leaders were systematically eliminated in a series of coups.

  • you remind me of a dumbass who bitches on the sidelines while others are in the fight for your rights as a citizen.

  • Don't post videos if you dont' like the criticism. Also, you aren't either of them so you really need to restrain your anger and not project it at the poster. If you don't like these comments, don't post the fucking videos, k?

  • criticism would be just fine: anyone can check the comments I make on youtube against facts, I welcome fact checking and constructive criticism.

chauvinism is what angers me, something that u seem oblivious about. BTW, you'd like me not to post more videos?! How about offering an informed opinion for a change, something I can fact check and say "you are right, I was wrong".

  • Damn, Richard wolff or chompsky should have been there to destroy greenspan.

  • it seems to me like Greenspan evaded annswers. lots of elaborate words but never a clear answer is given. His answer about Saddam and the war was convoluted. " if it wasnt for oil then Suddam wouldnt be in the position or somwthing to that affect. but it seems to me that it wasnt what the question asked.

Maybe im mistaken, english is my second language. more intellegent one is more one can conseal BS answers.

  • @kazearaki absolutely agree. Greenspan is smart and can defend his positions easily against any simplified or broad criticism. How about next time they take out Naomi and bring in Noam.

  • @kcwoodfield aloud?

  • We need a Norman Finkesltein of economy to grill assholes like Greenspan to dust. Klein is good, but I need someone that can humiliate war criminals like him to the lowest level where he deserve his standing.

  • @direwolf661 I rescind my last statement, they are equals

  • @fishmongerfunk you are deluded, he dose nothing of the sort. In an unbiased viewing you'd see he is evading their questions, and in the case of the missing money, "pleading the 5th," a move taken very often by mobsters. he has not a leg to stand on and you are also sexist for implying these woman cannot hold their own intellectually and factually with a man, when in fact they best him at every point, Klein especially

  • I think it needs to remembered that less than a year ago, a year after this program aired, Greenspan went before Congress wringing his hands and crying "mea culpa" and acting surprised that people could be as greedy as they could be. lol....priceless. Greenspan rejected his former Randian philosophies...

  • Structural adjustment Programmes... that's merely a euphemism for "shock therapy" as the name sugar-coats all its negative consequences: galloping or even hyperinflation, decreasing income, soaring crime, rising unemployment and underemployment, just to name a few.

  • AMY & NAOMI are doing their job as serving the American public by trying to grill this shyster. If anything Greenspan is accountable for wars dating back to the Vietnam War and even before. How dare he make comments of Saddam Hussein like he was unaware of what he was doing. In the 80;'s he was giving away money to Saddam. However, the American public have let these assholes word tease them into believing everything that is said from this government's point of view!!!!
