Recycle Blue Bin pick up on a Sunday morning in five minutes with minimal noise on 09.12.2007 at 0836. Although wet, it was not raining. Quick, efficient and effective job.

Some cardboard left on top was soggy but removed anyway. One black bag fly tipped by someone was put to the side. All is clean under the recycle Blue Bins too.

Still there is a vehicle parked on the solid yellow line. Fortunately, there is space between it and the other car for them to move these heavy recycle Blue Bins using the drop kerb, and they do not have to negotiate the kerb.

It's too bad people rely upon enforcement to observe the rules and regulations such as the solid yellow line. The cardboard should have been broken down by whoever originally put it out for recycling. It's easy to do, and the black bag should not have been fly tipped.

All in all it was quite good, quick and as soundless as possible. They arrived quietly and did as best as could be done with an otherwise noisy activity at 0836 on a Sunday morning.

There was a big storm coming in overnight and today with high winds. This is a good reason to have this area as clean as possible so these guys and those who collect the Orange Bags on Saturdays can get their job done safely and well for everybody.

Those putting the Orange Bags in the recycle Blue Bins yesterday were actually working in a slight rain which came down significantly later in the day. This is a good example of how it should be. Well done.

I have one further concern. Although they make every effort to not block traffic for very long and are conscious and considerate of those who wait, there was a vehicle waiting for them to finish today. My concern has to do with emergency vehicles.

Any emergency vehicle coming from the other end around the curve this way will have to either back out, turn around and drive out or wait for this truck to back out. That could be disastrous for either a police, ambulance or Fire Brigade response.

Any emergency vehicle coming from this end would most likely see the blockage and go another way. The truck could go ahead and drive out of the way and perhaps even park to the side temporarily on the corner for an emergency vehicle.

In any case a minute or two can mean the difference between life and death especially in case of an ambulance or fire. The only solution I can see for this is to enforce the solid yellow line parking to provide a means for the truck to back onto the Estate if they can drop the bollards. This will permit traffic to flow without the risk of stopped emergency vehicles.
