  • I was amused to find that in Kelly's recent memoir he's so dismissive of the Dots recordings, namely the "Talk" and "Manila" albums, that they're not even included in the otherwise exhaustive discography. LOL. Also says he wishes he could collect and destroy ever last copy of each!! So it's perhaps unsurprising if copies are less than abundant at present.

  • @EyepopTheSailorMan just wait til i get my hands on some of their other clips - ones rage hadn't even touched... billy baxtor video on its way!

  • I am Scottish and only got into Paul Kelly after visiting Oz in '02. The guy is a genius. Seen him a few times in Glasgow at King Tuts. Great small shows and he always plays 'Careless' which is a result. Are Talk and Manilla available to buy, struggling to find them. Cheers, Neil x

  • I am not sure... I don't think his first two albums are in print, not even in Australia.

  • cripes I'm glad I neve saw this video until now...it's hilariously awful (except sadness for Maurice F)...

but gee Pauls voice is so sweeet.

  • @Bennyboy1985 trust me he partook in the heroin.. was notorious...

  • That's Mick Turner from The Dirty Three with the tux and saxophone...surely?

  • Knowing PK, he'd look back at this and go....what the hell was I thinking?

  • great memories... notice there is only one 'cut' in this clip, neat idea and needed some quick logistics and planning to get it happening.. thanks for posting....

  • Lol, the thought of Paul with a needle in his arm looking for a vein is kind of funny. The hardest gear I could honestly imagine him doing is toking on a reefer- and let's face it, how many Aussie groups in the 80's didn't partake in a bit of Dutchie passing?

  • Jody,

You are correct. Billy Baxter is from the Talk album. Vocals Paul Kelly, Drums Tony Thornton, Bass Alan Brooker, Paul Gadsby, Guitars Chris Dyson, Chris Worrall (my brother) They were just The Dots prior to this but after Paul signed his royalties to Mushroom Gudinski promoted his music and made them Paul Kelly and The Dots. Sadly, Paul did have drug issues during this period it is great to know he survived it all! I was given a vinyl copy last weekend of Talk.

  • Just picked up a copy of "Manila". An underrated classic indeed. Too bad Paul Kelly doesn't think too much of the album.....
