@Alexknobsob I fully concur. Debussy was clearly brilliant, but this is far from his best.

@xterminatorofficial If there is or ever becomes a way to listen to it, let me know!

@tractakid well some compositions in Lochrian are actually very peaceful, currently I'm writing a song in Lochrian and everyone who's listened to it thinks it's very relaxing. I suppose it depends how excessively you use the route (diminished) which gives the piece an uneasy/ uncomfortable tone

@xterminatorofficial Its certainly an acquired taste... I am fascinated by it, but I wouldn't want to listen to it while going to sleep, thats for sure!

Debussy at his best!

People sometimes note that CD was "past his prime" in his later works, like Jeux and the Etudes. So please explain why both the violin and cello sonatas also belong to the later years. Past his prime, really? If you don't get the music, maybe it's you, not him.

locrian is the best mode :)

Pierre Boulez found it worth exploring - and worth revisiting. For a fine analysis, search for Hugh Wood's "Staking Out the Territory" Chapter 11 - 'Entering the Last Style'. It's available in pdf online, and fairly demolishes some of the more critical remarks here.
