It's not fake...in one sense. Derren Brown is using hypnotic suggestion on the student. The same way a hypnotist can get some people to cluck like birds and do inane things is what he's doing here, in this case though, he wants the student to believe that he's actually being psychically punched. Look up info on Derren Brown himself, he flat out says that things like a psychic punch are BS, he then shows how the actual trick is done: psychology, power of suggesstion, etc.

and the supposed HIT from the non-touching punch is completely psychological...I've even seen a video of a guy that had one of his "black belts" try knocking someone out with "chi" or by not touching them. When it didn't work, the "teacher/master" said it was because the guy was a "non-believer"...hmm, so all I have to do to keep from being knocked out with chi is to not believe
