Classic Game Room HD - AIR RAIDERS for Atari 2600 review

Classic Game Room was the FIRST classic video game review show on the Internet in 1999. Returning in 2008 with new episodes, Classic Game Room breaks out a review of AIR RAIDERS for the Atari 2600 VCS Video Game Console. Air Raiders on the Atari 2600 is an airplane flying game, or old school flight simulator. Dogfighting your way through waves of enemy jet planes is what this game is all about. Shoot down enemies with your machine gun, even though they are supersonic enemy airplanes. This is a very old fashioned flight game and plays like a first person shooter FPS in a way, you are viewing the screen as through looking through a cockpit of a real life jet fighter. The joystick is your flight stick and the button unleashes a powerful stream of bullets from your Vulcan cannon, so powerful that even Spock would be amazed. This has nothing to do with Air Raiders, the comic book (Which CGR Comics reviewed previously) which is a shame, but Air Raiders has a lot to do with air combat on the Atari 2600. It's true retro gaming at its best, and you can be a retro gamer whilst playing Air Raiders against enemies raiding your airspace. I think this game was also made for Intellivision. Do you like games like F-15 Strike Eagle, Top Gun, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Airwolf, F-19 Stealth Fighter and Air Diver? If so, check out AIR RAIDERS!!! At that time this game was high tech. I thought air raiders kicked ass when I played it. I just couldn't get enough of it. My son laughs at me knowing I played this game many many years ago.. Thanx for the memories

You know, early jets didn't have missiles. You could be an F-86 Sabre fighting MiG-15s, or an F-8 Crusader or Mirage III fighting MiG-19s or MiG-21s. All of those planes fought with guns.

That game was great. i remember trying to land for refill... so i had to stay at 0 for 4 seconds huh? it's funny.. =)

@boy82killer I was angry and in a hurry, so I apologize for not being very articulate. I see you are well versed in these things! Great analogy! Yes indeed, I am sure the Horse and Buggy sucked once the Model-T came out. At the time it was freaking mind blowing man, to see moving images that you control on the screen. I cannot stress that enough to people. If all of a sudden we could teleport that would be amazing, because the ability to do that has not been invented yet. Well said young sir!

@Joeyboots80 I think a better way of saying it is: Young complaining about graphics in a 30 year old game is like saying a car from the 60s is slow. Of course it sucks. But you gotta look at it and think to yourself "How'd they made something like this with technology that old?". I'm talking bout both of these inventions of course (for some reason). It's because of atari (or magnavox to be precise) that we HAVE video games. If these old systems weren't made, we wouldn't have CoD or God of War
