I made this with a 16F628A and a bunch of old 7segs + a chip clip that I had laying around. It comes in quite handy for debugging digital circuits when they are live.
in this video I'm using it to read the output of a binary counter.
It can read any 8bit data bus in real time. Right now the chipclip is configured for reading other 16F628A chips PORTB, but it could be configured to read any 8 bit databus.
The 7segs are dim because they are powered by the chip only. I wanted to keep it very simple and cheap.
I purposely left the chip exposed for easy firmware upgrades
