Puppies are not toys. And you should never, ever shop at a pet store that sells puppies. You see, most pet store puppies come from puppy mills—you know, those large scale breeding operations where dogs live in horrible conditions and never receive love. Well, every time you buy anything from a pet store that sells puppies, you're actually supporting this very cruel industry.

Animals are living beings, feel pain, feel fear and must be respected. If you do not respect an animal, you do not deserve to be respected.

My dog spent 3 months in the hospital, far away from my country, then 6 months in a cage inside a PETSHOP and when i got him he was 10 months old and i bought him... If it wasn't for me, Fufu (my dog) would be in the dog pound and if no one wouldn't adopt him...Fufu would be killed
But, don't worry now he has a loving family and a TRUE home :)

Puppy mills are where many dogs are bred, where the dogs live in unhealthy conditions, and profit is a higher priority than the well being of the dogs. If they just have a dog or two that happened to have puppies it's probably not a puppy mill.

No. Puppy mills are licensed dog breeders. Your friend's dog just had babies, and needed somewhere for them to go.
I strongly advise, however, that you have your pets spayed or neutered. While it seems inhumane in principle, when you consider the mass number of dogs euthanized in shelters each day, having even more dogs put into the community is not a good thing. Adopt from a shelter and save a life.

Though all of the pet stores around here that do have puppies get them from the animal shelter... (as in they are just there for the day to give them a better chance at being adopted than they would have had in the animal shelter) so it's not like pet stores are evil, it's the puppy mills themselves that are evil.
